Verizon IndyCar Series team co-owner and former driver Sarah Fisher continued her indoctrination racing a midget car on a dirt track Jan. 14, and was pleased with the effort.

Fisher finished sixth in both her heat race and the C Feature during John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night at the 30th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Okla. Fisher drove a midget on dirt for the first time in last year’s Chili Bowl, called “racing’s winter answer to the Super Bowl” because it draws talent from numerous disciplines to have at it on the indoor quarter-mile clay oval.

While it wasn’t enough to advance her to the main A Feature to conclude the night, Fisher was pleased with her performance, tweeting she “had a ton of fun and a great team” and that she will be “back for more” in Saturday’s final day of competition at the Tulsa Expo Raceway inside the River Spirit Expo Center.

Driving the No. 67SF midget sponsored by Hartman Oil, Russell Oil and CHS, Fisher was one of 84 drivers to compete on this night alone. Another 88 are expected to race today in the final qualifying session, which would push the total number of competitors to an event-record 338.

Among those scheduled to drive today is Bryan Clauson, a two-time Indianapolis 500 Mile Race starter and three-time U.S. Auto Club national drivers champion with more than 140 career feature wins in midgets, sprint cars and Silver Crown cars. Clauson was the 2014 Chili Bowl overall winner and has been named to drive the No. 88 Dale Coyne/Jonathan Byrd's Racing Honda in the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 this May.
