In a collaborative effort with Team Stargate Worlds, HVM Racing will enter driver Simona De Silvestro in all 17 races of the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series.
The No. 78 entry will carry primary sponsorship from Stargate Resistance and associate sponsorship from Bernard Richards Manufacture, FireSky, Cheyenne Mountain Games, and Cardinal Technologies.
De Silvestro and the No. 78 entry also will lead the "Do Not Text 'N' Drive" public awareness campaign.
De Silvestro, who tested both an IZOD IndyCar Series car and a Firestone Indy Lights car during the off-season, enters her sixth year in North American open-wheel racing. She won four races and had four pole starts in the 2009 Atlantic Championship season. She finished third in the standings.
“Racing in the IZOD IndyCar Series, alongside the class of competition that I will be racing with, is a true honor," said De Silvestro, 21, who is from Thun, Switzerland, and resides in Scottsdale, Ariz. "I am very grateful for this opportunity and for the type of team that I will have alongside me. I am equally grateful for the support that I have from my sponsors, family, friends and fans. I am very eager for my debut in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season."
De Silvestro participated in the two-day preseason Open Test last week at Barber Motorsports Park, logging 106 laps with a best time of 1 minute, 11.335 seconds (16th on the combined time sheet). She also tested with the team in January at Sebring International Raceway.
"From the first day of the first test, we knew she could drive," HVM Racing team owner Keith Wiggins said. "The longer we worked with her, the more she impressed us. I think she has a great future in this series. She made a lot of history in the Atlantic Championship and we expect her to make some waves in IndyCar now that she's here."
