Frigid weather in Indianapolis didn't prevent what is now the annual Indy car "drop" to ring in the new year at the home of the sport.

An Indy car was lowered to correspond with the New Year's Eve countdown to welcome in 2018. Despite wind-chill temperatures in negative numbers, an estimated 40,000 people attended the celebration. Click here to view a photo gallery of the event.
