INDYCAR officials have fined Verizon IndyCar Series driver Sebastian Saavedra $10,000 and placed him on probation through the Indianapolis 500 on May 25 for actions during a full-course caution in the April 13 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Saavedra, driver of the No. 17 AFS KVAFS Racing car, was found to have violated Rule 7.1.3.2.2 (Failure to yield to safety vehicle and personnel).
The member may contest the imposition of the penalty pursuant to the procedures and timelines detailed in the review and appeal procedures of the Verizon IndyCar Series rulebook.
Special prize winners at Long Beach
Firestone will present $10,000 to the entrant of the car in pit lane the shortest amount of accumulated time during the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on April 27. Cars must complete 95 percent of the race to be eligible. The No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car driven by Will Power earned the Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Sunoco will present $5,000 to the entrant of the driver who completes the fastest lap of the race at Barber Motorsports Park. Helio Castroneves in the No. 3 AAA Southern California Team Penske car posted the quickest race lap (1 minute, 9.0691 seconds) on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn Long Beach temporary street course.
Exotic vehicles display open to Barber race weekend ticket-holders
A 2003 Ferrari Enzo, one of 400 that were produced, will be among the exotic vehicles on display at the Firestone Complete Auto Care Sports Car Corral as part of the April 25-27 Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.
The display, which is open to race weekend ticket-holders, also will include a 2006 Ford GT40, a 2013 Ferrari 458 Italia, a 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo, a 2007 Bentley GTC, a 2010 Aston Martin Vantage, a 2013 McLaren 12C, and an Auburn Boattail. GET RACE WEEKEND TICKETS
