Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver Dario Franchitti underwent surgery in Indianapolis to repair the talus bone in his right ankle.
“Dr. Tim Weber repaired Dario’s ankle and his surgery went perfectly and just as planned," said Dr. Terry Trammell, orthopedic consultant to INDYCAR. "His post-operation X-rays looked great. Everything is positive at this point as Dario continues his recovery.”
The four-time IZOD IndyCar Series champion suffered a fractured ankle, a concussion and fractured vertebrae that did not require surgery in a final-lap incident during Race 2 of the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston on Oct. 6. He underwent surgery at a Houston hospital to stabilize the ankle a few hours after the incident.
