Teammates Graham Rahal and Christian Lundgaard have insisted during this young NTT INDYCAR SERIES season that Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has made great strides with its street racing setups after having trouble finding speed on temporary circuits for the first half of 2023.

The time sheets backed that up Sunday morning during the final practice for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Rahal was quickest with a lap of 1 minute, 7.0485 seconds in the No. 15 Fleet Cost & Care Honda on the 11-turn, 1.968-mile temporary street circuit.

Rahal will start 12th in the 85-lap race today, with live coverage starting at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network, Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

Two-time and reigning series champion Alex Palou was second in the 30-minute session at 1:07.0932 in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Palou will start sixth. Series points leader Josef Newgarden ended up third – the same spot as his starting position – at 1:07.1814 in the No. 2 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet.

2021 Long Beach winner Colton Herta was fourth – also his starting position – at 1:07.1872 in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda fielded by Andretti Autosport. NTT P1 Award winner Felix Rosenqvist rounded out the top five at 1:07.3162 in the No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda.

Rosenqvist stayed in the top five despite locking his brakes and skidding into the runoff area in Turn 9 with five minutes left in the session while running on Firestone’s alternate Firehawk tires.

Lundgaard, who qualified seventh as more evidence of RLL’s improved street course program, ended up 10th at 1:07.4886 in the final practice in the No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda.
