Chip Ganassi Racing confirmed June 20 that Takuma Sato will remain in its No. 11 Honda-powered entry for the three remaining oval races this season.
Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Sato drove for CGR in the first two oval races of the season, the PPG 375 on April 2 at Texas Motor Speedway and the 107th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 28 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His best finish was seventh at Indianapolis, where he also led two laps.
Sato will be behind the wheel of Ganassi’s car at the upcoming Hy-Vee Homefront 250 presented by Instacart and the Hy-Vee One Step 250 presented by Gatorade on July 22-23 at Iowa Speedway and the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline on Aug. 27 at World Wide Technology Raceway.
Rookie Marcus Armstrong is driving Ganassi’s No. 11 car at all the road- and street-course races this season. A team spokesperson said Armstrong could test on an oval after the season, but no date or track is confirmed.
