Ten NTT INDYCAR SERIES championships and eight Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge victories will be represented next month when the Goodwood Revival is held.
Legendary drivers Dario Franchitti (four series titles, three “500” wins), Helio Castroneves (four “500” wins) and Scott Dixon (six series titles, one “500” win), plus seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, now an NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver, will represent U.S. open-wheel racing in the prestigious event at the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester, England.
This year’s Goodwood Revival will be Sept. 16-18.
The Goodwood Motor Circuit hosts two major celebrity events, led by the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. The Revival is more of a race, with a two-part Saint Mary’s Trophy for VIPs and owners in addition to the Royal Automobile Club TT.
Franchitti, Castroneves, Dixon and Johnson, plus Simona De Silvestro, will be the NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers as the event represents nearly 30 series championships, including Formula One champions, 24 Hours of Le Mans winners and Isle of Man TT stars. The F1 champions scheduled to participate are Jackie Stewart, Damon Hill and Jenson Button.
NTT INDYCAR SERIES veteran Max Chilton, who recently set Goodwood’s hill course record at the Festival of Speed, also will participate.
Details of which cars the drivers will compete in have yet to be announced. In 2011, when Dixon attended his first Festival of Speed, he drove a 1958 Juan Manuel Fangio machine used at Indianapolis Motor Speedway along with his 2008 “500” winner of Chip Ganassi Racing.
Dixon’s return to Goodwood will have even more significance given that was the site of his wedding to Emma Davies.
Franchitti was an event race winner in 2005.
