Josef Newgarden was the quickest driver Saturday morning in the warmup for the Gallagher Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Newgarden’s best lap was 1 minute, 10.9281 seconds in the No. 2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet. Two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Newgarden will start fifth in the 85-lap race today (noon, NBC and INDYCAR Radio Network) on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course.

Rookie Kyle Kirkwood was second at 1:10.9895 in the No. 14 Sexton Properties Chevrolet. Kirkwood was the only driver in the top five to record his best lap on Firestone alternate “red” tires, which have more grip at the expense of faster wear.
Fellow rookie Christian Lundgaard continued his strong weekend by ending up third at 1:11.0317 in the No. 30 Shield Cleansers Honda. Lundgaard will start sixth after earning a spot in the Firestone Fast Six during qualifying Friday for the first time this season.
Alexander Rossi backed up his No. 2 qualifying spot by producing the fourth-quickest lap during the 30-minute session, 1:11.0529, in the No. 27 NAPA AUTO PARTS/AutoNation Honda.
Rossi’s Andretti Autosport teammate Colton Herta rounded out the top five at 1:11.0530 in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda.
NTT P1 Award winner Felix Rosenqvist was eighth at 1:11.0929 in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet.
Less than one-half second separated the top 16 drivers in the final practice.
