Alexander Rossi turned the fastest lap of the opening practice Friday morning for the Gallagher Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Rossi’s best lap was 1 minute, 10.0919 seconds in the No. 27 NAPA AUTO PARTS/AutoNation Honda. Two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Josef Newgarden was second at 1:10.1121 in the No. 2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet.

Colton Herta was third at 1:10.1507 in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda, followed by Scott McLaughlin at 1:10.2065 in the No. 3 Gallagher Insurance Team Penske Chevrolet.
Reigning series champion Alex Palou rounded out the top five at 1:10.2093 in the No. 10 The American Legion Honda. His Chip Ganassi Racing teammate and series points leader Marcus Ericsson was 11th at 1:10.4739.
There were no incidents in the 90-minute session. All 25 drivers in the field combined to turn 723 laps on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course.
