NTT INDYCAR SERIES veteran Santino Ferrucci will replace Jack Harvey as the driver of the No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda fielded by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing today in the XPEL 375 at Texas Motor Speedway after Harvey was not cleared to race following his accident in practice Saturday.
Ferrucci, 23, from Woodbury, Connecticut, will make his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES start since the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix last August at Nashville, one of five races in which he competed for RLL in 2021.
Per INDYCAR protocol, all drivers wear accelerometers that measure g-forces exhibited during an incident. These get evaluated, fully, after each incident, and if the result of the g-forces surpasses the minimum threshold, drivers must be re-evaluated prior to returning to competition. Following the protocol, Harvey was re-evaluated this morning and was not cleared for racing. Harvey is working closely with the INDYCAR medical team regarding next steps.
INDYCAR is providing Ferrucci with a Driver Substitution Special Session on the 1.5-mile oval from 11:15-11:30 a.m. (ET) today. The XPEL 375, a 248-lap race, starts at 12:30 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast live on NBC, Peacock Premium and the INDYCAR Radio Network. Ferrucci will start from the rear of the 27-car field.
