Nine degrees of preparation

While there was extensive interest in McLaren unveiling its Indianapolis 500 car livery for Fernando Alonso on social media on Monday, followed by images and video from a private test at Texas Motor Speedway on Tuesday, what really had the internet all a-twitter was one particular video.

The team revealed a secret training strategy for Alonso’s ultimate preparation for "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Looks like McLaren and Alonso are going to fit in perfectly with this NTT IndyCar Series crowd.

Driver trade shots (on social media and in real life) in Alabama

Prior to heading to Barber Motorsports Park, three drivers made a pit stop. Meyer Shank Racing with Arrow SPM driver Jack Harvey invited fellow drivers Max Chilton of Carlin and Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud to Southern Skeet & Trap. It started off innocently enough but got competitive (and a little weird) in a hurry.

Weird and wacky weekend

Speaking of weird, Barber Motorsports Park never disappoints when it comes to some of the eclectic mix of fun and interesting items you’ll find around the track. There was no shortness of “weird” this past weekend.

‘Power’ of social media

If you aren’t regularly checking out Will Power’s Insta-stories on Instagram, you are missing out on some amazing stuff since posts only stay available for a 24-hour period. Occasionally, however, we get lucky and the driver of the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet will share a few of his stories on Twitter, too. Before Barber race weekend, Power was seen sporting a beard. Teammate Josef Newgarden helped explain why this was so unusual for a Penske driver.

Ever wonder what Indy car drivers do after they leave one racetrack and head to another? With very little time between the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama and the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, here is a quick look at what some were up to.
