Fast Six: What's trending in INDYCAR
APR 10, 2019
INDYCAR's #FastSix is a report that borrows from all things found online about NTT IndyCar Series racing, its drivers and people. We find pics, quips and the occasional GIF as INDYCAR drivers live their extraordinary lives and put the evidence on Twitter, Instagram and more. Check back regularly for the latest.
Nine degrees of preparation
While there was extensive interest in McLaren unveiling its Indianapolis 500 car livery for Fernando Alonso on social media on Monday, followed by images and video from a private test at Texas Motor Speedway on Tuesday, what really had the internet all a-twitter was one particular video.
The team revealed a secret training strategy for Alonso’s ultimate preparation for "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Looks like McLaren and Alonso are going to fit in perfectly with this NTT IndyCar Series crowd.
"If on a daily basis you always turn left, even when you want to turn right, it helps with the training." ➡️🚫 ⬅️✅#RoadToIndy #McLaren66 pic.twitter.com/6pNUYLnxW4

Driver trade shots (on social media and in real life) in Alabama
Prior to heading to Barber Motorsports Park, three drivers made a pit stop. Meyer Shank Racing with Arrow SPM driver Jack Harvey invited fellow drivers Max Chilton of Carlin and Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud to Southern Skeet & Trap. It started off innocently enough but got competitive (and a little weird) in a hurry.
#INDYCAR It's a good thing @maxchilton came away with the win, because this situation had the potential to get very weird in Alabama! DISCLAIMER: No shoes were licked clean in this video.... https://t.co/ttYep5DhCO

Weird and wacky weekend
Speaking of weird, Barber Motorsports Park never disappoints when it comes to some of the eclectic mix of fun and interesting items you’ll find around the track. There was no shortness of “weird” this past weekend.
Giving @josefnewgarden some free advice during our @BarberMotorPark track walk. Have you ever seen anything like this before?

Alex, I'll take ‘too much INDYCAR cuteness for $800,’ please
From weird to wonderful, we offer up this gem. When you’re little and you meet your favorite NTT IndyCar Series driver whose name also happens to be Alex, things might get really adorable at Barber Motorsport Park

‘Power’ of social media
If you aren’t regularly checking out Will Power’s Insta-stories on Instagram, you are missing out on some amazing stuff since posts only stay available for a 24-hour period. Occasionally, however, we get lucky and the driver of the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet will share a few of his stories on Twitter, too. Before Barber race weekend, Power was seen sporting a beard. Teammate Josef Newgarden helped explain why this was so unusual for a Penske driver.
Do you agree with @josefnewgarden? Should I shave it? Is there a third option?

And as predicted …
In @IndyCar facial hair related news, I shaved.

A little down time for drivers
Ever wonder what Indy car drivers do after they leave one racetrack and head to another? With very little time between the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama and the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, here is a quick look at what some were up to.
Is cereal soup?

There’s some serious talent on @AmericanIdol this year...

The work apparently never ends for the families of drivers, however, as Ed Carpenter's wife and children learned after the conclusion of the Barber Motorsports Park race.
