Base Mid-Ohio picks on previous 2018 road course results
JUL 28, 2018
The Verizon IndyCar Series is back in action at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this week for the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. The 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course is the first of three natural terrain circuits in the final five races of the 2018 season.
So, it’s with the results at Barber Motorsports Park, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and Road America earlier this season that we utilize to put together our #INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge driven by Firestone foursome for the 13th round of competition.
The first member of my team this week is Josef Newgarden ($32). The 2017 Mid-Ohio winner won races at the Barber Motorsports Park and Road America, and he has outscored all other drivers in the first three road course races of 2018 by a wide margin of 24 points. The Team Penske driver has started on pole twice and led 127 of a possible 222 laps on road courses this year.
Next in line on road courses with an average finish of 3.7 is points leader Scott Dixon, but $35 is more than I’m willing to spend on the Chip Ganassi Racing driver who has five wins at Mid-Ohio.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens ($29), who has gone into most race weekends having not seen a racetrack until he arrives, should be ahead of the game after testing at Mid-Ohio last week. The Canadian has one podium and top-five finishes on all three permanent road course races this season. He is a solid pick to have another great weekend.
Over the past five races, Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan veteran Sebastien Bourdais ($23) has scored only the 16th most points. However, the Frenchman has made the Firestone Fast Six in the three road course races this season, finished in the top five twice and could have won at the Barber Motorsports Park. Plus, he’s due for a good weekend, right?
The last member of our Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio squad is Jack Harvey ($13), who is driving for Meyer Shank Racing with SPM. The is based in Pataskala, Ohio, and co-owner Michael Shank was born in Columbus. Harvey tested at the circuit last week, and his first win in North America came during an Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires race at Mid-Ohio in 2014.
That brings my four-driver team total to $97, leaving with $3 on the table for the $100 maximum. Be sure to get your selections in before the green flag waves at about 3:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
Even if you haven’t been playing the #INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge all season, you can still join this weekend and be in the running for weekly prizes. To sign up or choose your team, visit fantasy.indycar.com.
