INDYCAR’s “Fast Six” is a report derived from all things found online about Verizon IndyCar Series racing, its drivers and people. We seek and find pics and quips as INDYCAR drivers live their extraordinary lives and put the evidence into tweets, Instagrams and more. Check back regularly when we post the latest.
Support for a podium finish
James Hinchcliffe’s 11-week run on “Dancing with the Stars” (and second-place finish) took over the social media accounts of Verizon IndyCar Series drivers, team owners and fans one last time this week.
They might be fierce competitors on track, but INDYCAR drivers are also known for their close friendships and support of each other. That was never more apparent than Tuesday, when Hinchcliffe and partner Sharna Burgess performed for the final time on Season 23.
Here’s a sampling of the drivers’ tweets we saw in our feeds:
And, just before the Mirror Ball Trophy winner was announced, Hinchcliffe’s good pal, Conor Daly, cracked us up.
Media darling
Even journalists who cover INDYCAR were charmed by Hinchliffe’s all-out effort and Burgess’ story-telling choreography.
Sharna Burgess: Hinchtown’s artist in residence
Regardless of the end of this season’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition, we hope to see Burgess when the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season gets rolling March 12 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Considering her recent social media posts, that’s not out of the question.
Up in Smoke
The paddock was focused on racing this week, too. Particularly, congratulating three-time NASCAR champion and 1997 Verizon IndyCar Series champ Tony Stewart as he ended his decorated career Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Marco Andretti made the trip to support his friend in person and posed for a photo with Stewart and now-seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson’s helmet – the one he gave Stewart after the race.
Holidays: They’re lit
There’s a surprise waiting at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for all the racing fans who are coming home to the Racing Capital of the World for the holidays. IMS is decked with 400 light displays for visitors who want to take a driving trip through the track. Yes, you get to drive on the track – but only at about 5 miles per hour.
In honor of all of that joy, IMS President Doug Boles and his family got new outfits and he posted a festive photo.
Cooking with … great auntie
We’re not sure he’s as festive looking as the Boles clan, but Indy Lights driver Neil Alberico is prepared for Thanksgiving with some old family recipes. We wonder which one is his favorite.
