Ed Carpenter Racing driver Rinus VeeKay’s status is pending for the REV Group Grand Prix this weekend at Road America after he suffered a clavicle injury in a cycling accident.
VeeKay is in good spirits, with no other injuries, and is being treated by INDYCAR’s medical staff, according to team social media post. The accident occurred Monday, June 14 on a cycling trail during a training ride, the team said.
Practice for the REV Group Grand Prix starts at 5:15 p.m. (ET) Friday, live on Peacock. Live coverage of the 55-lap race starts at noon (ET) Sunday on NBCSN and the INDYCAR Radio Network, with the green flag scheduled for 12:45 p.m.
Dutch driver VeeKay is fifth in the series standings in the ECR’s No. 21 Sonax/Autogeek Chevrolet, 56 points behind leader Pato O’Ward.
Veekay, 20, earned his first career NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory May 14 at the GMR Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. He finished second in Race 1 of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit last Saturday, his sixth top-10 finish in eight starts this season.
