PORTLAND, Oregon (August 31, 2019) – NTT IndyCar Series rookie Colton Herta collected his second pole of the season during Saturday’s qualifying for the Grand Prix of Portland at the Portland International Raceway.

The 19-year-old Herta, who drives the No. 88 Capstone Turbine Honda for Harding Steinbrenner Racing, earned the NTT P1 Award with a lap of 122.302 miles per hour (57.8111 seconds) during Firestone Fast Six qualifying on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile permanent road course. Earlier this season, he became the youngest Indy car driver in history to earn a pole position when he accomplished the feat at Road America.

Joining Herta on the front row was Team Penske’s Will Power (No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet) with a lap of 122.261 mph (57.8303).

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon (No. 9 PNC Bank Honda), fourth in the championship points, was third at 122.250 mph (57.8355) and was followed by Meyer Shank Racing with Arrow SPM’s Jack Harvey (No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda) at 121.692 mph (58.1008).

Rounding out the Firestone Fast Six were Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist (No. 10 NTT Data Honda) at 121.564 mph (58.1620) and Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay at 121.521 mph (58.1823), respectively.

Outside of Dixon, it was a rough qualifying day for the championship contenders. Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden (No. 2 Hitachi Chevrolet), the points leader, qualified 13th while teammate Simon Pagenaud (No. 22 Menards Chevrolet), second in the championship, was 18th. Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi (No. 27 NAPA AUTO PARTS Honda), third in the title race, qualified seventh.

The Grand Prix of Portland (105 laps, 206.22 miles), Round 16 of 17 of the NTT IndyCar Series season, will be broadcast live beginning at 3 p.m. ET (Noon PT local) on NBC as well as the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio (XM 205, Sirius 98, Internet/App 970).
