Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires driver Rinus VeeKay, who won last year’s Indy Pro 2000 championship, will test an Indy car for the first time Aug. 7 at Portland International Raceway.
VeeKay’s test will come in the No. 20 Chevrolet of Ed Carpenter Racing.
The summer test for the 18-year-old driver comes just two years after making his debut in the Road to Indy program, the official development ladder system of INDYCAR. VeeKay has three wins and seven podium finishes in Indy Lights. He is second in the series standings.
VeeKay is positioned to be the second Indy Lights driver to test an Indy car this season. Ryan Norman recently tested with Andretti Autosport at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where INDYCAR will race next weekend.
