EXCLUSIVE: It’s “Honda Dream Garage Days” for James Hinchcliffe
APR 07, 2019
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – James Hinchcliffe has such a vibrant personality and is such a natural in front of the camera that he was an obvious choice to be featured in “The Honda Dream Garage Spring Sales Event” commercials.
It’s the second-straight year that the Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver has been the commercial spokesman for the Honda promotion. Flip on the television and there is Hinchcliffe, promoting the annual Honda sales promotion known as “The Honda Dream Garage Spring Sale Event.”
These are certainly “Honda Dream Days” for Hinchcliffe and the INDYCAR manufacturers partner with back-to-back Honda-sponsored NTT IndyCar Series races in a seven-day period.
It begins with today’s 10th Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park and continues into next Sunday’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
This will be the first year that Acura, the premier brand of American Honda Corporation, is the entitlement sponsor for famed street race in Long Beach, California.
As the “Face of Honda” on the television commercials, this is a busy week for Hinchcliffe, as well as the other Honda drivers in the NTT IndyCar Series.
“It’s always an honor to represent Honda,” Hinchcliffe told NTT INDYCAR Mobile. “They are such a great brand to drive for and work with. It was great to see Acura step up and take over the title sponsorship at Long Beach.
“With back-to-back weekends with back-to-back Honda and Acura-sponsored events, it’s going to be a big weekend for all of us.
“I won the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in 2017; now I would really like to win the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.”
In the past, the entire lineup of Honda drivers in the NTT IndyCar Series would spend time at the American Honda Corporation headquarters in Torrance, California and Honda Performance Development (HPD) in Santa Clarita, California for the popular “Honda Day.” It was a chance for the Honda employees to meet the drivers in person, including a company-wide autograph session.
That was held the day after the race at Long Beach on Monday.
This year, it has been changed to Wednesday before the events begin at Long Beach.
“It’s going to be a welcome change because the Long Beach Weekend is a busy one with drivers, fans and sponsors and the race is a tough one,” Hinchcliffe said. “The track is tough and it is hot. It will be a nice way to start the weekend for us, rather than do it the day after a hard race.”
Hinchcliffe admits it’s unique to be watching television at his home and see his commercial.
“For me, it’s cool,” Hinchcliffe said. “The biggest thing is seeing what it looked like when we shot it and what it looks like when you see it on TV.
“For me, it’s fascinating to see how they build these things and create them. I promise you, it’s a lot different when they are shooting it.”
