DETROIT – Scott Dixon moved deeper into the Indy car record books today, winning the first race of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear doubleheader to tie Michael Andretti for third place on the all-time victory list.

Dixon, in his 18th season of Indy car competition, notched career win No. 42 by crossing the finish line 1.8249 seconds ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay. The only drivers ahead of Dixon and Andretti on the wins list are greats A.J. Foyt (67) and Mario Andretti (52).

Spencer PigotDixon started second in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. He took the race lead for the first time on Lap 23 when pole sitter Marco Andretti – who drives for his father Michael’s Verizon IndyCar Series team – made his first pit stop.

Dixon wound up leading 39 of the 70 laps on the 14-turn, 2.35-mile temporary street course on Belle Isle. It was his second win on the track (first was in 2012) and first triumph of the 2018 season.

Hunter-Reay, in the No. 28 DHL Honda, led a trio of Andretti Autosport drivers across the finish line, with Alexander Rossi placing third and Marco Andretti fourth.

The second race of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix takes place Sunday, with live coverage on ABC (3:30 p.m. ET) and the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network.
