British teenager Jordan Cane will continue his development with Team Pelfrey as the team announced a two-year extension with the 14-year-old with an option to extend even further, with the Palmetto, Fla.-based team.
“We are delighted to have Jordan join us for another two years,” said Nigel Tuckey, team principal of Team Pelfrey. “His growth on and off the track has been extraordinary and his competitive nature is something every driver in the paddock wishes to inhabit. We’ve grown a custom to seeing him on the top step of the podium, and we hope to see more of that come 2016.”
Cane scored seven wins and 10 podiums in the F1600 series with Team Pelfrey despite missing the first part of the season. He’ll graduate to the Mazda Road to Indy’s first step the Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda Championship for the 2016 season.
“I am so pleased to continue my North American open-wheel racing career with Team Pelfrey,” Cane said. “My time in America has been such a highlight to my resume especially breaking the all-time win record in my first season and coming away fourth in the F1600 Championship whilst missing six races –not bad for the youngest in the world this year in formula cars. I didn't expect to have such a fantastic year and I have to thank everyone at Team Pelfrey who has made it possible.”
Cane will drive the No. 81 Team Pelfrey Mazda for the 16-race season throughout the U.S. and Canada.
“Continuing my career with the only team to currently compete on every step of the Mazda Road to Indy is an easy one for me, not only that it highlights a very clear path of how I see my career moving forward but it is also a testament to the faith the team are putting in me for the longer term and for that I’m extremely grateful. I know my time in USF2000 will not be easy, but hopefully I can reward my partners: Independent Talent Sport, adidas Motorsport, Goodwood, #2Bn1, Pro-Sim and the team with some wins this year.”
Australian standout Parsons set for Pro Mazda with Juncos Racing
Jake Parsons will join Juncos Racing’s Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires lineup in 2016 alongside American Will Owen and Argentine driver Nicholas Depero for the regaining Pro Mazda team champions.
Parsons, a 20 year-old native of Melbourne, Australia, made his official debut in the Pro Mazda series at the Chris Griffis Memorial Mazda Road to Indy test in November and showed speed, clocking the third quickest lap overall during the two-day test at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
“I’m very excited to race with such a large and professional operation like Juncos Racing,” said Parsons. “It’s a very well structured team with a solid Mazda Road to Indy program. I’m looking forward to working with them and improving as a driver under their guidance.”
Parsons joins the Mazda Road to Indy program after a successful run in the 2014 Australian Formula Ford series and Formula Masters China series, where he earned three wins and seven podiums in 10 starts. Parsons also won the 2014 AsiaCup Championship by recording nine wins in 12 starts. Team principal Ricardo Juncos believes Parsons is a valuable addition to his championship-winning program and is confident Parsons can be a front-runner in the 2016 season.
“We have had the opportunity to test Jake over the course of five days now and he has been absolutely impressive in every outing he has attended with us thus far,” Juncos said. “There is no doubt in my mind that Jake will be a championship contender next year. He only continues to get better as we work together.”
