Dario Franchitti was presented the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal Nov. 25 by the Duke of Cambridge during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London.
Franchitti, of Scotland, was named to the The Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June. His MBE is for "services to motor racing."
The four-time Verizon IndyCar Series champion and three-time Indianapolis 500 Mile Race winner who retired in December 2013 remains active with Chip Ganassi Racing Teams as a consultant and is involved with several commercial and charitable organizations.
“It’s a wonderful tribute, it’s a wonderful thing to have happen. I’m very proud of the honor obviously and it’s a wonderful full stop to my driving life. It’s wonderful to be recognized,” he told the Edinburgh Evening News.
