“As we begin the final push toward Labor Day weekend, we’re pleased to have enhanced every major element of the Grand Prix over last year,” general manager Tim Mayer said. “We’re also very proud to host an event that puts Baltimore on a prominent international stage and rounds out the summer tourism season with a final surge of economic activity.”

The track build will generally follow an 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. schedule to minimize traffic impact on the downtown streets, and work will be halted when the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles have events.

“The experience we gained last year was instrumental in developing a better track construction schedule in 2013,” Mayer said. “We’re also going to continue the practice of utilizing gates at critical intersections to keep the flow of traffic moving unabated in the days leading up to the Grand Prix. Utilizing these gates over Labor Day weekend also enables us to open major intersections to general traffic after each day of on-track activity.”

For spectators, the Esskay Family Fun Zone has been moved inside the climate-controlled Baltimore Convention Center and expanded to include Pinewood Derby races, Radio Disney performances, Autobahn high-performance go-karting and an obstacle course developed by the Port Discovery Children’s Museum.

Children 12 and younger will be admitted free to the grounds with an adult who purchases a general admission ticket. The musical lineup has been expanded and will include a performance by multi-platinum recording artists LIVE. Admission to all main stage musical performances throughout the weekend is included in Grand Prix of Baltimore tickets.
