All three Team Penske drivers climbed in the Power Rankings following a second consecutive race weekend landing two cars in the top three of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES finishing order.

Will Power became the first driver to win three races this season with a victory in Sunday’s BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland. His teammate Josef Newgarden finished third eight days after securing victory Aug. 17 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

The third Penske driver, Scott McLaughlin, won NTT P1 Award honors at WWTR and finished runner-up to Newgarden on that oval.

It’s safe to say the ascension could be far from over, with Team Penske a perfect 4-for-4 on ovals this season and the final three races of the season beginning with this weekend’s Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250s doubleheader taking part on circle tracks.

↑10. Santino Ferrucci (No. 14 Phoenix Investors Chevrolet; Last Rank: NR)

Ferrucci earned his first career NTT P1 Award at Portland International Raceway and turned that into an eighth-place finish, his eighth top 10 of the season and fourth in the last seven races.

↓9. Kyle Kirkwood (No. 27 AutoNation Honda; Last Rank: 7)

The Andretti Global driver earned his 11th top-10 finish of the season, eight coming in the last 10 races. The only thing keeping Kirkwood from being higher in Power Rankings is that he’s not led a lap in the last six races.

↑8. Marcus Armstrong (No. 11 American Legion Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: 10)

Armstrong had five top-10 finishes in 12 starts during his Rookie of the Year campaign last season. He has seven in 14 starts this year. Armstrong finished fifth at Portland, his fourth career top-five finish – all this season. He has four top-10 finishes in the last five races after three in the first nine.

↓7. Rinus VeeKay (No. 21 askROI Chevrolet; Last Rank: 6)

An 11th-place finish at Portland halts the four-race top-10 streak for VeeKay. However, being one spot out can’t drop VeeKay too far. His 8.6 average finish over the last five races leads Armstrong’s 9.4, which is why he gets the nod for seventh over the Chip Ganassi Racing driver.

↓6. Scott Dixon (No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda; Last Rank: 4)

The topsy-turvy season for Dixon continued with a first-lap crash and 28th-place finish at Portland. The two-time victor this season has an 11.85 average finishing position over the last seven races. He has led eight total laps over the last eight races.

↑5. Will Power (No. 12 Verizon Business Team Penske Chevrolet: Last Rank: 8)

Feels crazy to have Power this low, but that’s how tightly contested this field is. Power has led 218 laps (117 of 260 at WWTR and 101 of 110 at Portland) the last two weeks. However, a late-race crash at WWTR left Power with his fourth finish outside the top 10 in the last five races. A rebound victory at Portland propelled him into the top five of the Power Rankings, but an average finish of 8.71 in the last seven races forces some trepidation on how high to place him.

↑4. Josef Newgarden (No. 2 TireRack.com Team Penske Chevrolet; Last Rank: 5)

Finishing third at Portland earned two-time reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Newgarden his third podium result in the last seven races. Newgarden has finished third, seventh, 11th, first and third, respectively, in the last five races.

↔3. Scott McLaughlin (No. 3 Freightliner Team Penske Chevrolet; Last Rank: 3)

McLaughlin was fastest in Friday and Saturday practice at Portland. A close field in qualifying left McLaughlin narrowly on the outside looking in for the opening round. The team decided to forego a 14th-place starting spot to take an unapproved engine change, with the ensuing penalty resulting in a loss of six spots to 20th. He charged 13 spots to finish seventh, his sixth top-seven finish in his last eight starts.

↔2. Colton Herta (No. 26 Gainbridge Honda; Last Rank: 2)

Herta placed fourth at Portland, the fourth consecutive top-five finish for the Andretti Global with Curb-Agajanian driver. The 4.75 average finishing position over the last eight races for Herta is tops in the series.

↔1. Alex Palou (No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda: Last Rank: 1)

Despite no victories in the last eight races, Palou continues to gain points on the competition. That’s a byproduct of three runner-up finishes in this span, including Sunday at Portland. His 5.25 average finish in this span trails only Herta, with finishes of fourth, first, second, 23rd, second, fourth, fourth and second, respectively.
