Callum Ilott will continue to substitute for the injured David Malukas for Arrow McLaren at the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge Open Test on April 10-11 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Ilott will drive the No. 6 NTT DATA Arrow McLaren Chevrolet as Malukas continues to recover from left wrist surgery to repair injuries suffered in February in a mountain biking accident. Ilott joins full-time drivers Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi, and Indy 500 rookie and 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson in the Arrow McLaren lineup for the test on the 2.5-mile oval.
A team statement also indicated Malukas will not be in the cockpit for the next NTT INDYCAR SERIES event, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday, April 21. Ilott has a clashing commitment that date with his full-time drive in the FIA World Endurance Championship, so Arrow McLaren is evaluating other options and will announce Malukas’ replacement “in due course.”
British driver Ilott qualified 16th and finished 13th as Malukas’ substitute in the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding on Sunday, March 10. He finished ninth in his heat race March 24 for The Thermal Club $1 Million Challenge, failing to advance to the Sprint for the Purse.
Ilott drove for Juncos Hollinger Racing in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. His best finish was fifth, in 2023 at the season opener at St. Petersburg and at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in the season finale.
Malukas is entering his third season in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES but his first with Arrow McLaren after moving to the team following his first two seasons with Dale Coyne Racing with HMD. He produced a podium finish in each of his first two seasons after graduating from INDY NXT by Firestone, both at World Wide Technology Raceway, placing second in 2022 and third last season.
