2022 INDY NXT by Firestone champion Linus Lundqvist will drive the No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline on Sunday, Aug. 27, his third consecutive NTT INDYCAR SERIES race with Meyer Shank Racing.
Lundqvist, from Sweden, again will substitute for 2016 series champion Simon Pagenaud, who continues to recover after a barrel-rolling accident July 1 in practice at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This will be the first career INDYCAR SERIES oval start for Lundqvist, who also drove for the team Aug. 6 at the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix in Nashville and Aug. 12 at the Gallagher Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
“I’m extremely happy to be joining MSR again in St. Louis this weekend,” Lundqvist said. “The last few weekends in Nashville and at Indy have been the time of my life, and I can’t wait to continue to work with this team. We’ve been through some challenging race formats – Nashville, a street course; Indy, a road course; and now St. Louis, an oval. I will be learning once again.
“I know that it is going to be tough and tricky, but I know the team is going to give me a good car to have a solid result like we had at Indy. I’m also very much looking forward to working with Helio (Castroneves) as a teammate. Working with him on an oval is something that every driver would want to do, and I’m just going to learn from it as much as I can this weekend.”
Lundqvist has performed well in his two starts with MSR. He qualified 11th at Nashville and placed 12th on the IMS road course as the top rookie finisher in the race.
Live coverage of the 260-lap race on the 1.25-mile oval starts at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC, Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network. It’s the final oval race of the season and starts a stretch of three races on consecutive weekends to finish the 2023 season and crown a series champion.
