In honor of INDYCAR showcasing Portland International Raceway this week, veteran photographer Joe Skibinski offers this shot which includes Mt. Hood in the background some 80 miles to the east.
A view of Mt. Hood, Oregon's tallest mountain, can't always been seen from the track, but when it can be it's magnificent.
That's Spencer Pigot driving the No. 21 car.
In this lower shot, Skibinski captured Colton Herta's locking of the brakes on the first lap of this year's Grand Prix of Portland. Herta led the first 36 laps before being overtaken by Scott Dixon. Will Power, whose No. 12 car is on the far right of this photograph, won the race for his 37th career victory.
The NTT IndyCar Series returns to Portland for the Sept. 4-6, 2020 weekend. That will be the penultimate race of the season.
