Using INDYCAR’s advanced statistics and data, we’ve developed a weighted formula to rate the NTT IndyCar Series drivers after each race this season. Welcome to the Power Rankings – but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Will Power is always No. 1.

How does it work? We look beyond the results of the event, also factoring in qualifying results, on-track passes, on-track position passes and average running position throughout the race to come up with each driver’s unique rating.

The rankings are based on the four most recent races. The most recent race (Grand Prix of Portland) is weighted the most in the rating and the oldest race (Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio) the least.

So, following the race at World Wide Technology Raceway and heading to Portland International Raceway, here’s a look at the top NTT IndyCar Series drivers:

Who’s No. 1:

Will Power – With two wins in the last three races, there’s no driver hotter than Will Power. With his teammates among those battling for the title, he could be the spoiler for those trying to catch Josef Newgarden.

On the Rise

Josef Newgarden – All he does is what he needs to do to keep his championship lead. With another top-four finish, he’ll lock up his second championship.

Looking to Bounce Back

Scott Dixon – Dixon’s hopes for a sixth championship have faded with mechanical issues the last two races. But if there’s any driver who can have a Hail Mary answered, it’s the Iceman.

The Top 10

1. Power (Last Rating: 3) – See above
2. Newgarden (Last Rating: 4) – See above
3. Colton Herta (Last Rating: 10) – The rookie scored his second pole of the season at Portland and nearly scored his first podium since his win at COTA by finishing fourth.
4. Simon Pagenaud (Last Rating: 1) – Scored his eighth consecutive top-10 finish at Portland which keeps him the championship race.
5. Felix Rosenqvist (Last Rating: Unranked) – A second runner-up finish in the last four races push the Swede back to the top of Rookie of the Year standings and back into the rankings.
6. Alexander Rossi (Last Rating: 6) – Scored his first podium finish since Toronto with a third-place finish at Portland. Needs a strong finish at Laguna Seca to win his first series crown.
7. Santino Ferrucci (Last Rating: 2) – Electrical issues knocked Ferrucci out of a race for the first time this season.
8. Scott Dixon (Last Rating: 5) – See above
9. Tony Kanaan (Last Rating: 9) – Another solid day for AJ Foyt Racing’s veteran driver keeps him in the rankings.
10. Sebastien Bourdais (Last Rating: Unranked) – French driver returns to the rankings with a top-10 finish.

Dropped out: Ed Carpenter (8), Conor Daly (9).
