SEBRING, Florida – Tony Kanaan’s wheels made an appearance Thursday at Sebring International Raceway.

No, not the wheels on his race car. The signature TK20 wheels currently adorning the pace car he received for winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2013.

In conjunction with Miami-based Vossen Wheels, Kanaan helped design a high-end, high-performance gold wheel commemorating his 20th year in Indy car racing in 2017. The 2013 pace car, a blue 2014 Corvette Stingray, and its unmistakable new gold wheels were shined and ready for their first commercial photo shoot at Sebring, where Kanaan was testing for his first season with AJ Foyt Racing.

“You’re seeing it first-hand,” Kanaan said. “It was developed over the winter. We have a partnership with Vossen, which is a very well-known wheel manufacturer. This is the TK20 edition, but we’re going to be doing more and more.”

Vossen Wheels calls it “engineered art” – various custom designs of wheels for high-end performance and luxury vehicles. The TK20 design was unveiled in October at the SEMA convention in Las Vegas, where promotions said it celebrated “a mutual admiration of motorsports and TK’s 20th year of competing in the INDYCAR series.”

As one might expect, the limited-edition TK20 is not inexpensive.

“It’s a high-performance wheel,” Kanaan explained. “It’s not a cheap wheel. There are not a lot of people who want to spend six or seven thousand dollars on a set of wheels, but they’re out there.”

There’s a reason for the price. Instead of cast aluminum, each TK20 wheel is machined from a single block of forged aluminum. And each set is custom-ordered, tailored to the customer’s car and can be finished in more than 20 colors.

The unique design features five center spokes branching into 10 outer spokes with Kanaan’s name engraved on the rim and his “TK20” logo on the hub.

“I’m excited,” Kanaan said. “I’ve always done this kind of thing, but this is a new venture for me.”
