Team Penske’s Will Power joined the parade Aug. 17, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS in the 19th Woodward Dream Cruise in Michigan.

"A lot of horsepower and it looked awesome,” Power said. “Unfortunately, you're only cruising at about 15 miles an hour down Woodward, but it was still good fun."

The annual celebration of car culture that takes place on a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue between 8 Mile Road in Detroit and Pontiac attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators and tens of thousands of muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles in addition to other attractions, food vendors and concerts.

In Toowoomba, Australia, it’s called lapping.

“It was nothing of this size, nothing like this,” Power said. “You’d drive laps up and down the main street in our nice cars. The Woodward Dream Cruise was pretty cool. There were so many cars -- classic cars, antiques, hot rods, muscle cars. I even saw a few go-karts. It was a lot of fun and it's always good to come here to Detroit, the home of Chevrolet and the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix."

Power greeted fans at the Chevrolet Performance display and discussed the IZOD IndyCar Series race on the revamped Belle Isle circuit.

"Although we didn't get the finishes we wanted here on Belle Isle this year, I really enjoyed racing on the new circuit,” he said. “And I liked the two-race format at the Chevy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans. It was a challenge for the teams and great for the fans. I really hope we can bring the Duals back next year."

Open Test open to ticket-holders; live Timing & Scoring

The Aug. 21 IZOD IndyCar Series Open Test at Sonoma Raceway is open to spectators holding race tickets or purchasing them at the gate.

All drivers entered in the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on Aug. 23-25 are expected to participate in the 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (local) sessions. Live Timing & Scoring will be available on www.indycar.com.

Floyd Ganassi, father of Chip Ganassi, dies

Floyd Ganassi, father of IZOD IndyCar Series team owner Chip Ganassi, died Aug. 19. He was 87.

“It is with heavy hearts that everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing Teams offers our condolences to Chip Ganassi and the whole Ganassi family on the passing today of Chip’s father, Floyd Ganassi," the team said in a statement. "Everyone that knew Floyd knew that he was beloved at racetracks all across the country and leaves a long trail of great friends.  Floyd Ganassi will be sorely missed by us all.”

Floyd Ganassi was pre-deceased by his wife, Marie, in November 2011.

Hargrove selected for Team Canada spot

USF2000 championship points leader Scott Hargrove was selected as one of two Team Canada Scholarship winners. Hargrove will represent Team Canada at the Formula Ford Festival in October at the Brands Hatch Circuit in England.

Pabst Racing, Kellett to make Firestone Indy Lights debut

Pabst Racing will make its Firestone Indy Lights debut with driver Dalton Kellett at the Grand Prix of Baltimore on Sept. 1.

Kellett, 19, has competed in both USF2000 and Pro Mazda this season.
