ROSTER
How do I set my lineup?
First, you’ll enter the INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge game, whereby your homepage will show two tabs, My Team, and My League. From your My Team tab, you can select a driver by clicking on one of the four circles with a “+” sign in it, which brings up all drivers eligible for selection. You’ll want to select a driver for all four spots, as well as complete the “Pick the Podium” section for bonus points and guess the fastest race lap speed as a tiebreaker.
Do I really need to select four drivers for my team?
Yes, it is a requirement to select four drivers to have an eligible team, much like every other salary-based fantasy racing product. For the Indianapolis 500, you need to select eight drivers to have an eligible team.
What happens if a driver I selected gets injured before the race and is replaced? Do I automatically get his replacement put on my roster?
Your team will not be modified in any way unless you do it, which you are able to do until roughly ten minutes before the green flag. While this is a rare occurrence, your team will not be automatically updated.
Can I pick the same driver for more than one spot in the “Pick the Podium” bonus section?
We aren’t at the horse track, so no stacking a Win/Place/Show with a single driver. They are bonus picks for a reason. It’s supposed to be hard.
Is there a limit to the number of times I can select a driver throughout the season?
There is not a limit on the number of times you select a driver during the season. If the salaries fit within your budget, you can pick the same team every week for the entire season.
Will my team carry over week to week?
No, you’ll need to select your team before every race. Salaries change before every event, and we don’t want to automatically give you an invalid team.
Is my roster larger for the Indianapolis 500?
Yes, you’ll get double the number of drivers (eight) and double the budget ($200). Definitely don’t forget to play the 500.
I’d like to create a different team for a specific league. Can I do that?
No. Each player creates just one team which is used across all leagues he/she is entered in. We aren’t running a March Madness pool here.
SALARIES
How are salaries created?
We’ve come up with a super-secret formula based on a myriad of factors, biggest of which is our internal power ratings, but also include season wins, history at the track, and point standings.
Are salaries going to be different for the Indianapolis 500?
The salaries themselves will be like every other race. However, you’ll get double the number of drivers (eight) and double the budget ($200).
Will salaries change over the course of a weekend?
No, salaries will not change once they have been published for a given event. Want to take advantage of a surprise pole winner? Go for it! Want to take out a driver because he spun in qualifying and is starting last? Sure thing (but you might not want to bet against Scott Dixon)!
PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to 1st through 10th place finishers after each race event in the overall INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge “All Players” public league. There is a season overall prize distribution and is awarded to 1st through 10th place finishers overall in the INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge “All Players” public league.
Private leagues or any other available public leagues outside of the INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge public league are not eligible for prizes.
Prizes will be awarded to United States residents only. International fans are still cordially invited to participate in the INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge game but are ineligible for official prizes.
See the Official Rules for full prize detail.
SCORING
What value will be populated for the tie breaker if I don't enter one?
You will be assigned 000.000 MPH.
How often do live race ranks/stats update?

How do I earn bonus points?
There are two ways to earn bonus points.
In-Race: During the race and during green-flag laps, any driver on your team can earn a quarter-point (0.25) if they turn the fastest lap of the leader lap. There is no limit to the number of bonus points each driver can earn during a give race.
Note – “In-Race” bonus points will only be awarded for the race events. There will be no “in-race” bonus points awarded for the Indianapolis 500 qualifications.
Pick-The-Podium: Prior to the race, you can pick three drivers who will be on the podium for the race. If you pick the winner, you get 25 bonus points. If you pick the driver who finishes second, you get 15 bonus points. If you pick the driver who finishes third, you get 10 bonus points. However, if you pick a driver to win and that driver finishes in 2nd or 3rd, you get no bonus points. Additionally, you can’t pick a driver to finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd … podiums don’t work that way, and neither does this bonus point selection.
Similarly, for the Indianapolis 500 qualifications, rather than picking the “podium”, you’ll be picking the three drivers to start in the front row: Pole-Position, Middle-Row 1, & Outside-Row 1. The same selection criteria and awarded points work the same way.
How is the fastest race lap recorded for the additional bonus points?
INDYCAR Timing & Scoring records the speed for every completed lap for every driver. That’s kinda what they do. At the end of the race, the fastest overall lap is recorded, regardless of which driver turned that lap.
How is the tiebreaker recorded?
Each fantasy racing player will submit their best guess towards the fastest single-lap speed turned by any driver during the race. Based on their guess, the absolute value of the difference between (1) the actual single-lap speed turned in the race, and (2) the fantasy racing player’s guess will be the player’s tiebreaker amount.
Example 1:
- Player guesses: 185.525 MPH
- Fastest lap in the race: 192.120 MPH
- Tiebreaker = Absolute difference = 6.595 MPH
Example 2:
- Player guesses 185.525 MPH
- Fastest lap in the race: 173.943 MPH
- Tiebreaker = Absolute difference = 11.582 MPH
Similarly, for the Indianapolis 500 qualifications, rather than picking the fastest single-lap turned by any driver, the fantasy player will submit their guess for the four-lap average speed of the pole position winner. Based on their guess, the absolute value of the difference between (1) the actual four-lap average speed turned by the pole position winner, and (2) the fantasy racing player’s guess will be the player’s tiebreaker amount.
LEAGUES
How many leagues am I allowed to join?
At this time, there is no limit to the number of leagues you can play in. Be advised, you will be playing the same team for each league you play in. If you change your team, your change will be reflected within all your leagues.
Note: when you first join a league, your points for that league will start at zero. Thus, if you join a league mid-season, you may be at a disadvantage because the other players in the league may have already scored points prior to you joining.
Maximum league size?
Currently, there is no maximum league size for either public or private leagues. Private league administrators will be able to remove players from their league if necessary.
How to remove a team from my league?
If you are a private league administrator, proceed to your league administration page. A list of current players will be displayed, as well as the option to remove them from your league. Click on the “X” to remove a player and confirm the removal.
Note, the player removed from the league will be notified of their removal.
How do I create a public league?
For 2024, fantasy racing players will not be able to create, modify, or delete “public” leagues. As we continue to evolve our new fantasy racing platform, INDYCAR will take feedback from our fantasy racing players regarding the public leagues.
How do I create a private league?
From your “My Leagues” page, you will see a “Create Private League” button at the bottom. Click that.
Enter a League Name and a desired League Password. Your password should be a minimum of 8 characters. Click the “Create League” button.
That’s it … your private league is now created. You are designated as the administrator of that league, and you’re now ready to send invitations.
Note: For 2024, there will only be one Administrator for a given private league. Multiple administrators will not be allowed at this time but will be re-investigated for 2025 and beyond.
How do I leave a public or private league?
All fantasy racing players will be entered into our “All Players” league, and will not be able to leave this league, as this is the league INDYCAR will use for prizes.
All fantasy racing players who have joined one of INDYCAR’s public leagues will not be able to leave the league.
All fantasy racing players who have joined a private league will not be able to leave that league themselves. Only the league administrator will have the power to remove a player from the league. We’ll let you work on the details between yourself and the administrator about removing you from the league.
How do I invite players to my private league?
As a league administrator, you can invite specific players to join your league using their email address.
From the My Leagues page, select the league you are the administrator of, then click the “Admin” button at the top of the screen to open the Admin page
From the Admin page, proceed to the “Invite a new player” section, enter their email address, and click the “INVITE” button. A confirmation message will be displayed to confirm the email address
This process will send an email invitation for the submitted email address.
How do I join a public league?
On your “My Leagues” page, you will see a “Join A League” button. Click that.
At the top, you will see a list of all leagues (public/private) you have already joined. Below, you will see a list of all public leagues available to join, along with a “Join” link. For each of the public leagues you’d like to join, click the “Join” link.
You’ll receive a message for you to confirm you’d like to join the league. Click the Join button on the confirmation, and you’re now part of that league.
Note: once you’ve joined a league, your points specific for that league will start at zero, and you will not be able to leave the public league.
How do I join a private league?
If you are a league administrator, congratulations – you’ve joined your own private league. (HAHA)
Humor aside, in order to join a private league, the private league administrator must first invite you to his/her league.
The league administrator will send an invitation to you via email, with all the details of joining the private league. If you haven’t signed up for Fantasy Racing, you will first be asked to set up your fantasy racing profile. If you’ve already set up your fantasy racing profile, you’ll skip over this step, and be forwarded to your My Leagues page. From there, you’ll see all your leagues, including those you have been invited to. Confirm the invitation, and you’re in.
Please note: once you’ve joined a league, your points specific for that league will start at zero, so if you’re joining mid-way through the season, you might not be able to catch the leaders, but you can still get weekly bragging rights. Also, once you join a private league, the only way you can leave the private league is if the administrator removes you.
