Takuma Sato will drive on a familiar racetrack – an anomaly during his first IZOD IndyCar Series season – next week at Barber Motorsports Park in the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by Legacy Credit Union.
He'll appreciate it.
Sato, driver of the No. 5 Lotus-KV Racing Technology car, joined others during an Open Test on the 2.38-mile road course in Birmingham, Ala., in preparation for the 17-race season (first four on street/road courses). It was Sato’s initial extended time in the Honda-powered Dallara.
In the first two races (on temporary street circuits), Sato finished 22nd (contact on Lap 1) at Brazil (started 10th) and 22nd (contact with tire barrier on Lap 24 while running eighth) at St. Petersburg (started 11th).
“I have learned a lot about the car these first two races, but I still have some things to learn about this series,” he said. “I am confident it will come soon.”
